Owning a small business can be
so gratifying that sometimes you forget about why
you are a business owner... and that is to make
profit. Believe it or not, it is easier to operate
a medium to large-sized business because there you
have all the help and expertise you need, comptrollers,
marketing managers, labor representation, vice-presidents
etc. etc...for whatever the position and knowledge
needed. When you have a problem, "call a meeting,"
all the experience and help you need are with you
in the board room. This kind of help is not available
to a small business owner. You have to wear many
hats, sometimes you are the general manager but
more than not, you are the accountant, labor boss,
marketing manager, engineer, whatever the problem
calls for, that's who you must become. It is hard
to be an expert in everything. If you truly understand
this, then you know why a consultant is needed by
many small business owners.
